“Finally, from so little sleeping and so much reading, his
brain dried up and he went completely out of his mind.” - Miguel de Cervantes
Saavedra, Don Quixote
I rarely sleep before midnight.
Maybe it is the enormous load of caffeine I take in during the day. Or maybe it is because of the books that are waiting to be read, or blogs waiting to be typed or games waiting to be played. But seriously, I feel that there are a lot of things to do rather than have a shuteye.
Sometimes, I try to lie on my bed at ten in the evening and remind myself that my body needs its eight hours of sleep to recuperate from all the stress that I have undergone through the day. And then, I watch the ceiling for an hour, try to count some sheep, or cats or what-nots. After a very unsuccessful trial, I turn on the lights and do something else. So much for that eight-hour sleep regimen.

So I went searching over the internet about insomnia and I found this link which underlines commonalities for people "suffering" from it. I would like to think that there is some grain of truth in this study because insomniac people I know, are more often than not, in touch with the left hemisphere of their brain. I also remember reading an article from my boss several months ago underlining a certain study that most insomniacs (READ: not claiming all, so this may not apply to me) have the tendency to be perfectionists, are over-achievers and are not sluggish throughout the next day despite sleep deprivation.
So much for my hyper-aroused brain at 1:00 AM. To all of you, my fellow insomniacs, holler up! Do you have any of the traits that this study has enumerated? Let's validate it! Haha!
