How I Discipline Myself To Write

Share It Please

Last October 19, I subscribed to Jeff Goins' Intentional Blogging Challenge which I encountered from one of Patty's post. As the name suggests, it is a series of challenges for you to intentionally allot time to writing. Ever since I became a housewife, I have committed to myself to do the things that I had no time for when I was still in the corporate world. On top of that list would be writing, reading and resting.

Writing seems to be the easiest thing to do but really, it is not. You have to crack yourself for the right words, the right topic. Sometimes, you wait for that "wind" to inspire you to come up with a great article. This is what I have been relying on in the past so you could expect quite a predictable result: I only wrote whenever I felt like it. And that happened once in a blue moon especially since I was swamped with the challenges of my job.

But lately, I have realized that, like in any other field, there should be dedication to the craft. Michael Jordan didn't become the best basketball player (in my eyes) if he didn't practice a gazillion times. Writing needs discipline, similar to any other goals that you would like to accomplish.

Soooo...

I have listed the challenges that were posted in the group so far and if you would want to further improve your blog for whatever reason, I highly encourage you joining this group as there are so many great lessons that  you can learn.

I have been lagging on these challenges as I mentioned on my last post but hopefully I could catch up sometime this week. I am giving you a snapshot of the challenges and my own progress list. Yay!

1. Create an interesting About Me page. Hopefully this is interesting enough but yes, DONE!
2. Determine your blog's focus. : DONE!
3. Ask people what is your "writing voice". This I have done already but I did not blog anymore about it. From what I took from those who replied to my writing voice, it is sincere and it comes from the heart. Interesting. What do you think? So for this challenge, DONE!
4. Share a story behind your blog. DONE!
5. Connect with other bloggers. Comment on five blogs. DONE!
6. Write and publish a list post. I have actually combined Challenge 6 and 10. DONE!
7. Make an email list. I have already installed MailChimp to be my signup list. DONE!
8. Write a great blog post.
9. Write a catchy headline.
10. Write a how-to post. So this blog post was originally titled, 17 Discoveries in 17 Days. I have renamed it to "How to survive staying at home for seventeen days" DONE!
11. Write a confession in your blog.
12. Review your subscription page. I am still thinking on how to make it more interesting, meaningful or attractive to the readers but yes, it is up and going, sooo... DONE!
13. Write about something you are struggling with.
14. Land your first guest post.

Would you look at that! I am halfway through (for today, that is!) I have yet to accomplish all the rest and I would really want to be able to complete this challenge.

If you are interested to do some guest posting (or vice-versa), let me know! You can connect with me via the following channels:
